YOUR DISTRIBUTOR

We looked at one low-budget London film as a case study when researching distributors.

YOUR FILM WEBSITE

Use a striking image that attracts the audience and signals the genre.
  • 'From Ben Murray, director of Dead Capacity' (put your name as director). Some audiences like to follow favourite directors and knowing the director makes them feel confident about what they are going to see
  • '5 nominations for best newcomer at Raindance' Awards, nominations lend authority.
  • 'Another beautifully crafted and chilling thriller' Screen pull quotes are persuasive: remember the two-step flow audience model
  • Actor in close-up
  • Interactivity You have made a group decision about how to attract your audience and create a buzz. This will appear on your website. Last lesson you looked at several case studies (competing for premiere in The Disappearance of Alice Creed; jokes in The Infidel; webisodes; competition prizes).

TV DRAMA STUDY DAY: Rich Mix Education on Tuesday 6 March 2012

We are going to Rich Mix Education at 35 Bethnall Green Road, London, to attend a study day on television drama. It is led by Pete Fraser, senior assessor for OCR AL Media Studies.

This event will take a close look at how the key elements of camerawork, editing, mise-en-scène and soundtrack construct representations of different social groups. The morning clip-based presentation will be followed by an industry-focused afternoon, where students will listen to the director of a successful TV drama explain how editing is a tool for story telling. The day will include a presentation by a composer to discuss the various ways in which sound contributes to meaning in television drama. After lunch we will have a screening of an episode of Sherlock which will be followed by a Q&A session with the editor Charlie Phillips.

Travel arrangements

We will meet at Burger King in Waterloo Station at 9.30am on Tuesday 6 March 2012. I will lead the trip and accompany you from Waterloo to Rich Mix Education on the tube. The study day ends at 3.30pm when students will make their own way home. I will be travelling back to Waterloo after the trip for those students who wish to travel back together. You should bring a packed lunch which we will eat at Rich Mix Education.
